Last reviewed: 2026-09-11 by the Paddl team

The Paddl food safety app is a native iOS and Android app for the people on shift: opening and closing checks, fridge and cooking temperatures, cleaning tasks, the SFBB diary and HACCP monitoring records, with quick incident and fault reports, training, the rota and Ask Paddy, working offline and syncing when the signal returns.

## What Paddl's food safety app does

- The day's opening, closing and cleaning checks with photo and signature proof
- Fridge, freezer, cooking, cooling and hot-holding temperatures logged by hand with pass or fail limits
- The SFBB diary and HACCP monitoring records kept as the checks are done
- Quick reports for incidents, faults, deliveries and allergen queries
- GPS check-in and check-out that feed hours to the rota, training modules and shift swaps
- Ask Paddy for answers from your SOPs and policies
- Offline-first: records save on the phone and sync later; tablets auto-logout between users

## Questions

**Is there a free food safety app?**

Not a free tier: Paddl is £69 per location per month with every feature, after a 30-day free trial that needs a card on file and charges nothing until it ends. Free apps tend to cover the diary only; the EHO will also ask for the HACCP plan, allergen records and training evidence, which is where the paid apps earn their keep.

**Does the food safety app work offline?**

Yes. Records save on the phone and sync when the signal returns, so a walk-in freezer or a basement kitchen does not lose a temperature log. Shared tablets log out between users so every entry carries the right name.

**Do EHOs accept records kept on an app?**

Yes. Environmental health officers accept digital records and many prefer them, because each entry is timestamped and signed. During a visit, the EHO view pulls the SFBB diary, temperature logs, cleaning records and training certificates into one screen.

**Food safety app or food hygiene app: is there a difference?**

No. They are two names for the same category, and "HACCP app" is a third: software that replaces the paper diary with checks, temperatures and records on a phone. What varies is depth. A diary-only app covers the SFBB pack; Paddl adds the HACCP plan, allergen matrix, COSHH, training records and the audit pack, on one price per location.

**What does the app do beyond food safety?**

GPS check-in and check-out that feed the rota and timesheets, shift swaps, training modules, quick fault and incident reports, and Ask Paddy for answers from your own SOPs. It is the one app the team opens for the day, not a second login.

**Which phones does it run on?**

iOS and Android, as native apps from the App Store and Google Play, plus the web dashboard for managers. Staff sign in with biometrics on their own phone or a PIN on a shared tablet.
