## Questions

**What notification channels does Paddl support?**

Paddl delivers notifications through three channels: push notifications to the mobile app (iOS and Android), email (individual alerts and configurable digests), and in-app notifications visible when staff open the platform. Critical alerts use push notifications for immediacy; routine updates use email digests to avoid alert fatigue.

**Can staff customise their notification preferences?**

Yes. Each staff member can choose which notification types they receive and through which channels. However, managers can set minimum requirements to ensure that critical alerts like temperature violations and compliance deadlines cannot be silenced. This balances staff autonomy with operational safety.

**How do email digests work?**

Email digests compile notification activity into a summary sent at configurable intervals: hourly for high-volume operations that need frequent updates, daily for standard oversight, or weekly for multi-site managers who need a broader view. Each digest shows tasks completed, checks missed, deadlines approaching, and any issues that need attention.

**What triggers an end-of-day report?**

EOD reports are generated automatically at a time you configure (typically end of trading). They summarise the day's compliance activity: routine task completion rates, temperature readings and any violations, missed checks with reasons, equipment status, and any outstanding actions. They are sent to designated managers by email.

**Does this work on mobile devices?**

Yes. Push notifications are delivered directly to staff phones via the Paddl mobile app for iOS and Android. Notifications work even when the app is closed. Staff can also view their notification history and preferences within the app.

**What compliance alerts should a food business have?**

At minimum, a food business should have alerts for temperature breaches (fridge, freezer, and hot-holding), overdue daily checks (opening, closing, and cleaning routines), certificate and training expiry (food hygiene, first aid, personal licences), equipment service dates, and document renewal deadlines. Paddl covers all of these with configurable lead times and escalation rules so critical items are never missed.

**How do automated reminders improve compliance?**

Automated reminders remove the reliance on managers remembering to chase staff or check spreadsheets. Tasks are assigned and notifications are sent without manual intervention, overdue items escalate automatically, and compliance deadlines are flagged weeks in advance. This consistent, system-driven approach means fewer missed checks, better records, and stronger evidence of due diligence during inspections.

**How does Paddl decide which unfilled shift to shout about?**

Every published shift with nobody on it within the next 48 hours is in the alert. When the site has a sales forecast, each one is weighted by what the hours it covers are expected to take, so the empty Friday evening comes first and the message says which hour and why. Without a forecast the alert is the plain count it has always been. Either way it runs once a day, skips days the site is marked closed, and clears once the shift is filled.

- [Staff rota software](https://paddl-ai.co/features/rota): Paddl's staff rota software builds the week against a demand band drawn from up to thirteen weeks of Square takings, warns before you publish if someone is untrained or over hours, takes the hours from staff check-ins, works out holiday, and exports to payroll.
- [Food safety app](https://paddl-ai.co/features/mobile-app): The Paddl food safety app is a native iOS and Android app for the people on shift: opening and closing checks, fridge and cooking temperatures, cleaning tasks, the SFBB diary and HACCP monitoring records, with quick incident and fault reports, training, the rota and Ask Paddy, working offline and syncing when the signal returns.
- [Rules and automations](https://paddl-ai.co/features/rules-automations): Paddl's rules and automations show weather, wind and tide to staff at check-in and create tasks when a condition you set is met, such as a hot-day food safety routine when the forecast passes a temperature or a setup task when it is going to be sunny, scoped to the sites you choose.
- [Team chat app](https://paddl-ai.co/features/team-chat): Paddl's team chat gives every venue its own channels, groups and direct messages, with broadcasts that ask for acknowledgement, open shifts and swaps posted as cards staff can claim, shared-tablet tap-in, translation into 12 languages, and an exportable, retained history. Included at £69/location/month, with 5 owner and manager users per location, £2.99 a month for each extra, and no seat for staff.
