## How to use it

1. **Run the ice point check** Fill a cup with crushed ice and a little water, stir, insert the probe, and it should read 0°C within about a degree.
2. **Run the boiling point check** Place the probe in boiling water and it should read close to 100°C, allowing for altitude where you are.
3. **Record the deviation** Write the actual reading and how far it is from the expected value. If it is outside ±1°C the probe fails.
4. **Act on a failed probe** Recalibrate or adjust if the probe allows it, otherwise take it out of use and replace it, then record what you did.

## Tips

- Use crushed ice rather than cubes so the water sits closer to a true 0°C
- Boiling point drops slightly at altitude, so adjust your expected reading if you are high up
- Check the probe at least monthly, and any time it has been dropped
- Keep a backup probe so a failed check never stops service
