Best Hospitality Staff Training Platforms (2026)

Digital training, induction, and compliance learning platforms compared.

Updated: 2026

Staff training is a regulatory requirement for UK food businesses, and a key factor in EHO inspections. Inspectors expect to see evidence that staff have been trained in food safety, allergen awareness, and relevant compliance areas. Digital training platforms replace paper sign-off sheets with tracked learning, competency assessments, and automatic certificate management.

Buying Guide

What training records do EHOs want to see?

EHOs want evidence that all food handlers have been trained in food safety appropriate to their role. This includes induction training for new starters, Level 2 Food Safety in Catering (or equivalent) for all food handlers, allergen awareness training, and any role-specific training. They want to see dates, what was covered, and evidence the training was completed (signatures, certificates, or digital records).

Standalone LMS vs integrated training

A standalone learning management system gives you access to course libraries and formal qualifications. An integrated approach — where training records sit alongside food safety, HACCP, and SFBB records — produces a more coherent picture for EHO inspections and makes it easier to identify compliance gaps.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Level 2 Food Safety mandatory?

Level 2 Food Safety in Catering is not specifically mandated by law, but food business operators must ensure all food handlers are trained and/or supervised to a level appropriate to their duties. Level 2 is widely accepted as the standard for food handlers and is what most EHOs expect to see.

How often should food safety training be refreshed?

There is no legal requirement for specific refresher intervals, but best practice is to refresh food safety training every 3 years. Allergen awareness training should be refreshed more frequently, particularly when menus change. Many businesses do annual refreshers to maintain high standards.
